Solar Power Wireless Security Cameras

Wireless security cameras provide protection at a fraction of the cost of traditional hard wired alarm systems. Since there are no wires it is easy to move the cameras and motion detectors to any location both indoors and outdoors. Some models are designed to stand up to all weather conditions and can handle extreme temperatures; others may need to be placed inside weatherproof camera housing.

The great thing about wireless security cameras is that they need no outside power lines or power connection. They can be used in any remote location without electricity or internet connection. Because the cameras are wireless their usability is limitless. They can monitor family activities, animals, construction sites, parking garages, environmental changes, universities and schools, private properties and businesses.

Of course they will still need to be plugged into a power source at some time. This usually is in the form of a battery pack, or internal battery. However, the problem here is that batteries need to be replaced or recharged. Solar cells attached to camera units can continually charge batteries. Solar technology has improved greatly over the last several years and efficiency and panels will even function on cloudy overcast days. Motion sensors that activate only when activity is present ensure camera run time and data storage space will not be wasted.

If you are a home owner you can use your solar-powered security cameras to capture anything that happens while you are away by connecting them to any recording device, such as a digital video recorder (DVR), VCR, or computer. Your camera can also be set up to automatically connect to your computer and give you instant messages in case of a fire or gas leak. So when you are away you can find out the status of your home environment at any time. It can detect glass break-ins as well as any movement on your property.

The latest solar-powered security camera kits are very easy to install. They are developed so that you can easily move any camera to a new location around your property. High power transmitters may be necessary for large properties or acreages. You can also add new cameras to the existing system very easily since there are no wires to deal with. The solar panels that are included in the security camera kits are big enough to recharge the internal battery during the day. There is also a back-up power supply in case the battery runs out of power overnight. So if you want to use your security cameras hassle free in outdoors or remote locations, then a solar-powered motion-sensing camera is the best choice.

Build Your Own Solar Car

In the post from re-energy they gave an idea for solar car that you can built yourself.

A single solar cell is able to produce only a small amount of electricity. But solar cells can beSolar car, solar energy, solar power connected together on a multi-cell panel to produce larger amounts of electricity. As with batteries, the more cells that are connected to one another, the greater the current of electricity that can be produced.1 Solar panels can produce enough electricity to power satellites, recreational vehicles, and equipment for other applications where electricity is used in large amounts.

For this project, you will be using the electricity from solar panels to power a small car. Your challenge will be to build a solar car that travels as fast and straight as possible.

Solar cells connected in series (in a long chain, positive to negative, etc.) will increase the voltage of the panel. Solar cells connected in parallel (all their positive terminals to one wire, and all their negative terminals to another wire) will increase the current, or amperage of the panel. In most large commercial panels, the individual cells are connected both ways, with rows of cells in series to raise the voltage of the panel, and then those rows connected to each other in parallel, to raise the amperage.solar car

the exact instructions are here.

You can test your car by placing it in bright sunlight, or under a bright (150 watt or greater) light bulb. The wheels should begin to spin quickly. If the wheels are turning the wrong direction, switch the wires connected to the motor. This will reverse the direction of the motor. You can make small adjustments to the angle of the panels, the alignment of the wheels, and the position of the motor to reduce friction, increase the power from the panels, and improve the speed of your car.

Portable Solar Power Systems – Keep Your Computer, Camera and More Charged With the Sun

By: Solar Matt

If you are like millions of Americans, you love to be on the go, enjoying the great outdoors. More and more Americans spend good portions of their summers at camps, camping in the wilderness, or hiking. Unfortunately, the realities of our day to day lives make it very hard to leave the world behind for more than a few hours, let alone a whole weekend, or more.

If you love the great outdoors, but need to be able to stay connected to your friends and family, or the office, you need an affordable and efficient way to keep your computer and your cell phone charged up and ready to go – especially when you are nowhere near the closest electrical outlet. A Portable Solar Power System is the answer!

I came across two Portable Solar Power Systems from a company called Silicon Solar when I was searching the internet for a great present for one of my friends this past week. They offer two different Portable Solar Power Systems; a Large Portable Solar Power System and a Small Portable Solar Power System.

The Small Portable Solar Power System is perfect for small electronic devices like cell phones, PDAs, MP3 Players, rechargeable batteries, and small cameras. The Small Portable Solar Power System includes a small solar panel, a small sealed-lead acid battery and a 75W inverter with a single AC outlet (like you would find in your home). The inverter turns the DC power generated by your Solar Panel, and stored in your battery into the typical AC power that normal household appliances use to recharge and operate. You can purchase the Small Portable Solar Power System for under $150.

The Large Portable Solar Power System features a larger Solar Panel, larger battery for additional storage and charging capacity, and a 400 watt DC to AC Inverter with two standard AC outlets, which allows you to charge or use two different electronic devices at the same time. The Large Portable Solar Power System is great for charging all of the smaller electronic devices that the small Portable Solar Power System charges, as well as some larger devices like laptop computers, portable DVD players, Sewing Machines, and much, much more. And, the Large Portable Solar Power System comes with a number of different Solar Panels to choose from – depending of how much power you really need, and the best part? It costs under $350.

Both of these Portable Solar Power Systems are incredibly portable and lightweight, and can be toted from place to place in the included carrying cases. If you, like millions of Americans, need the power to stay connected to your busy life while you are enjoying some peace and quiet in the great outdoors, one of these Portable Solar Power Systems is probably the right choice for you. You can find these, and hundreds of other great Solar Products from Silicon Solar at their website; www.siliconsolar.com.

Solar Gadgets – Gotta Love Them

by: Rick Chapo

It has been claimed that our nation is infatuated with a variety of things from civil rights to freedom. Bah! If we are honest, we will admit we are infatuated with gadgets.

Solar Gadgets – Gotta Love Them

Forget the oil addiction, our biggest weakness as a nation is we are fools for gadgets. If it peels an onion 56 different ways, we have to own it. Don’t believe me? Ask yourself one question. When you go to a fair, how many gadgets do you end up bringing home? Be honest. There is no shame in it. In fact, I believe there is an argument to be made that a particular subject matter, whatever it is, isn’t mainstream until it includes gadgets. If this is true, solar energy may finally be a real alternative.

Most of us have far too many gadgets, particularly small personal gadgets. Cell phones, ipods, pdas, Bluetooth, I have them all. I find it somewhat ironic that all these small gadgets that are to make my life easier make me look like Sherpa walking around. Regardless, the digital age has one problem and you already know what it is. Gadgets require power and they always run down when you need them most. This, of course, results in you walking around with a power converter in your hand looking for a convenient outlet of some sort. Instead of looking like a junkie trying to find a fix, you can use a very useful new gadget.

Solar power packs are the latest and greatest thing when it comes to gadgets. Yes, I said solar. The packs come in a variety of forms, but they tend to look like the black folders for your compact discs. The packs are thin and light. When you are outside, you just unzip them, lay them in the sun and plug your power hungry gadget into them. The packs will put a charge into your gadget and you’ll be ready to go.

Finally, solar power we can use on a personal level. I guess it is here to stay.
